CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A 19-year-old woman was killed when she was ejected from her vehicle during a Monday night crash involving a tractor trailer.

Alyssa Williams, of Chester, died from her injuries, and the 34-year-old Canadian who was driving the tractor trailer, Sikander Singh, has been charged with reckless driving, according to the Virginia State Police.

A crash at the 108-mile marker of Interstate 64 involving a tractor trailer and two other vehicles left one person dead and another injured late Monday night, and it occurred less than an hour and a half before a second fatal crash involving a tractor trailer occurred just a mile down the interstate.

Virginia State Police are investigating the initial crash, which occurred at approximately 11:25 p.m. when a tractor trailer struck a Honda passenger vehicle stopped behind a disabled Ford passenger vehicle. The impact caused the Honda and the tractor trailer to leave the roadway and enter the right shoulder before stopping in a ditch.

Williams, the driver of the Honda, was ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the tractor trailer also suffered injuries and was transported to a hospital. The driver of the Ford was not injured.

Later, at 12:51 a.m. at the 109-mile marker, a second fatal crash occurred when Nachalie Amaro Burgos, 30, was driving a tractor trailer that struck a vehicle, pushing it into another trailer in front of it, according to the Albemarle County Police Department. The driver of the vehicle, 58-year-old Sally Tripp of Fishersville, was transported to UVA Health where she died from her injuries.

Burgos has been charged with felony involuntary manslaughter, failure to obey a highway sign, and driving too fast for conditions. She is being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail without bond, according to ACPD. The investigation into the crash is being conducted by the ACPD’s Traffic Unit, and it is ongoing.
